54. The Passing of Thoden
[Elsewhere on the battlefield, Thoden lies under his dead horse.]
[Blood flows from his mouth. owyn crawls to his side. Thoden touches her gently.]
Thoden: "I know your face. owyn. My eyes darken."
owyn: "No. No, I am going to save you."
Thoden: "You already did. owyn, my body is broken. You have to let me go. I go to my fathers in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed."
Thoden: "owyn."
[Thoden dies in owyn's arms.]
